The forest is a tranquil place; travelling through I absorb the views and respond creatively to their impact on my senses. While the countryside and its expansive panorama provides an extensive repertoire for imagery and experimentation.
Each painting is the result of many layers of oil paint either diluted or impasto. Prior to this the underpainting can be treated with applied surface qualities, which may involve the use of marble dust, handmade papers, corrugated card, old canvas, to name just a few.
The refinement and development of the painting takes place in conjunction with 'rollering' techniques plus 'scratching in' and 'lifting' processes. The overall process may take several months.
Through these methods I aim to capture the essence of this magical place.
